That habit of renaming goes back to the club's founding as the hockey section of SK Viktoria Plzeň in 1929. Political shifts and changing owners pushed it through Sokol Plzeň IV, Spartak Plzeň LZ, TJ Škoda Plzeň, Interconnex, ZKZ, Keramika and Lasselsberger before it settled back on Škoda in 2012 — a returning name rather than a new one. The nickname stuck through all of it: Indiáni, taken from the Native American figure on the crest of the US 2nd Infantry Division.

Plzeň's only Extraliga title came in 2013, beating Zlín 4–3 in the final. It sits oddly alongside two Presidents' Trophies for topping the regular season, in 2010 and 2018, and five bronze medals since 2000.
