Konstantin Astrakhantsev learned the game in Glazov before the 1993 World Championship, and the club he came through still measures itself against the players who left it. Progress Glazov works now as a junior side, feeding Izhstal Izhevsk in the Supreme Hockey League, and both Grigori Seleznyov and Konstantin Ryzhov moved up that same pipeline into the Kontinental Hockey League — Seleznyov to Neftekhimik Nizhnekamsk, Ryzhov to Lada Togliatti.

The club traces back to December 1954, the first hockey team the Udmurt Republic had. It carried two other names first, Traktor and then Torpedo, before Progress was settled on in January 1961. Between 2014 and 2016 the team was moved to Izhevsk altogether to serve directly as Izhstal's feeder club, then brought back to Glazov.

Nothing since has matched 1987, when Progress took the RSFSR Cup. The nineteen-eighties were the club's own golden stretch at home too: four straight Udmurt Republic titles from 1986 to 1989, alongside the regional tournament for the prize of the RSFSR sports committee. Games against Izhstal are still billed as the Udmurt Derby, the closest thing the club has to a fixture that needs no introduction.

Home games are played at Glazov Arena, named for S.N. Arkhangelsky, which holds under three thousand. It is a small enough building that a Glazov junior still gets watched the way Astrakhantsev once was, before Chelyabinsk and Togliatti and a world title carried his name past the city.
