Riga Prizma

Riga's hockey landscape in the late 1990s ran through a logistics firm rather than a boardroom of sportsmen: SIA Prizma joined forces with the club Latvijas Bērzs in 1997, and the pairing took the ice the following season as LB/Prizma Rīga. The partnership held until 2002, when the sides split and the team took the name it has carried since, HK Prizma Rīga, formally registered that October. The years that followed brought a string of rebrandings tied to sponsors and partners — Prizma/Riga 86, then HS Riga/Prizma-Hanza, then a spell as HK Prizma/IHS during a tie-up with the International Hockey School — before the club settled back on its original name.

Its home since 2005 has been the Volvo Ice Hall, an arena SIA Prizma built itself, holding 1,000 spectators.

The club's single Latvian Championship came in 2013–14, when Prizma beat HK Kurbads in the final; two seasons later they added a bronze. The title earned Prizma a place in the 2015 IIHF Continental Cup, where the club finished bottom of its group.

What Prizma has produced more consistently than trophies is players. Kaspars Daugaviņš came through the club before an NHL and KHL career, and Ralfs Freibergs moved straight from the Prizma system into Dinamo Riga's squad.
