RK Tinex Prolet Skopje

Skopje's Prolet neighbourhood gave its name to a handball club, and the two have stayed attached ever since: founded in 1962 by local youth and teachers, among them Goce Stefanovski, Vangel Kolovski and Vlado Miljovski, RK Prolet grew out of the settlement. The goalkeeper Vladimir Kostovski designed the first kit, black with blue and white.

In the Macedonian Super League the club has never taken the title, its closest approach a third place in 2020–21, and the domestic cup has gone unwon since 1993, semi-finals in 2014, 2015 and 2017 the nearest it has come back. European football has stretched as far as the third round of the EHF Challenge Cup, in 2011–12 and again in 2015–16.

Vardar remains the derby that matters most now, a mismatch in silverware more than a contest, but the fixture Prolet supporters grew up on was against RK Jug, from the neighbouring settlement of Muchurin — a local rivalry that ended when Jug folded. Among the names attached to the club, Zlatko Daskalovski stands out for having taken his goalkeeping from Prolet into the national team.

Home matches are played at the Makedonsko Sonce Arena, a gym that seats around a thousand, which is why European nights get moved to the larger Jane Sandanski or Boris Trajkovski arenas across town. The club has also called Rasadnik and Avtokomanda home at earlier points, but it is Makedonsko Sonce, small and local, that fits a team still rooted in the neighbourhood it was named after.
