Shooting Stars

The club began life in 1950 as WNDC Ibadan, named for the Western Nigeria Development Corporation, and passed through the names IICC (Industrial Investment and Credit Corporation) and Pepsi-Cola Football Club before settling on Shooting Stars. Founding members Jide Johnson and Niyi Omowon are credited with the nickname. The Oyo State government has owned the club throughout.

No club in Nigeria has won the Federation Cup more often: eight times between 1959 and 1995. The league title came five times, the first in 1976 — the same year Shooting Stars beat Tonnerre Yaoundé of Cameroon 4-2 on aggregate to take the CAF Cup Winners' Cup, the club's first continental trophy. A second, the CAF Cup, followed in 1992. In 1984 they reached the final of the African Cup of Champions Clubs, the forerunner of today's CAF Champions League, and lost to Zamalek.

Rashidi Yekini started here too, scoring 45 league goals in two seasons before moving on to become the country's all-time leading scorer.

The rivalry with Water Corporation FC defined Ibadan football through the 1970s and 1980s. What has not returned since 1998 is a trophy.
