There is no single named enemy here, just the grinding contest of the Sheffield Shield, where three states keep getting in the way.
The Redbacks, once known as the West End Redbacks, carry a spider on the badge.
What separates this era is the run under Ryan Harris. South Australia went 29 years without a Sheffield Shield, a drought that swallowed entire careers, before Harris's side broke it in 2024–25.
Adelaide Oval holds the big days, Karen Rolton Oval the smaller ones. Fifteen Sheffield Shields sit in the cabinet now, the first from 1893–94, the most recent from last season.
