«Eglė»
The SM Tauras Sports Hall on Žygio gatvė is a school sports complex as much as an arena. Eglė was founded in 1974, and the club took its finish there seriously enough to place third in the Soviet Championship in both 1981 and 1987.
What followed, once Lithuania had its own league, was closer to a monopoly than a rivalry: sixteen national titles between 1990 and 2010, with barely a season in between left for anyone else. The high point sits earlier than that run, though. In 1988 Eglė beat Budućnost Titograd to win the EHF Cup; two further finals, in 1982 and 1989, ended in defeat.
The years after 2010 read differently. The Lithuanian league stopped producing champions for Eglė, and the club's ambitions shifted towards the Baltic Handball League, where it took silver in 2021 and again in 2025 and bronze in 2011 and 2022 — closer to the regional level than the European one it had once reached with a group-stage campaign in the 1999 EHF Champions League.
Domestically, that gap is now measured against HC Garliava.
