Wisła Płock

Kamil Syprzak spent his early seasons at Orlen Arena before Barcelona and Paris Saint-Germain came calling. The oil town's club has kept that habit of shaping players it cannot always keep — goalkeeper Rodrigo Corrales arrived from Spain, while captain Michał Daszek stayed and became the face of the side through its most recent title run.

The handball section split off from the wider Wisła Płock sports club in 1964. For a stretch in the 1990s it played under the name Petrochemia, then briefly Petro, before Wisła returned to the shirt — the sponsor changed, the nickname Nafciarze, the oil workers, never did.

Domestically the club has had little to prove for three decades. Nine Polish Superliga titles since 1995 and fourteen Polish Cups tell of a side that has rarely gone long without silverware, including a Superliga double in 2024 and 2025 and a Cup won as recently as this year. Industria Kielce has usually stood in the way when the league goes to the wire.

Europe has been a different story. The bronze medal in the EHF European League in 2022 remains the club's high-water mark on the continental stage, and a quarter-final in the Champions League the following season showed the level was there. A European trophy itself, the one honour that would put Płock alongside the continent's elite rather than just knocking on the door, has stayed out of reach.
