Wybrzeze Gdansk II

Match days for the reserve side sit in the shadow of a bigger fixture: the senior team's derby with Spójnia Gdynia, and MMTS Kwidzyn adds a second regional needle further down the table. Wybrzeże Gdańsk II plays out its own games at Hala AWFiS, feeding players up rather than chasing points of its own — the shirt still carries the "Szczypiorniści" nickname the senior side has worn for decades.

That senior side traces back to 1951, when a handball section formed under Gwardia Gdańsk, later renamed GKS Wybrzeże. The section folded in 2003 and its assets passed to AZS-AWFiS Gdańsk. Former players brought it back in 2010, setting up the Stowarzyszenie Piłki Ręcznej Wybrzeże Gdańsk, and the reserve team was built into that structure from the same year.

The II Liga, the third tier, is where the reserves compete now, a step down from spells they have had in the I Liga. No senior trophy sits in the reserve side's cabinet, though the pipeline it serves has produced results elsewhere: the club's junior teams took the Polish Junior Youth Championship in 2023. Marcin Lijewski, who played for the senior club before returning to coach, remains the name most associated with what the reserve side is meant to produce — players who go through Gdańsk and come out the other end ready for the top flight.

It is that same 2010 refounding, born out of the 2003 collapse, that gave the reserve team its reason to exist at all.
