That merger, in 2021, brought together HC Tatran Stupava, a club dating to 1947, and HO TJ Strojár Malacky, formed in 1964, into a single Extraliga side carrying both towns' names.

The women's side kept the Tatran Stupava name and its own record, taking the second-tier 1. liga hádzanárok title in the 2015/16 season, a result that predates the merger and belongs to Stupava alone. Further back, in 1992, a Stupava youth team took silver at the Czechoslovak Championships.

Home games are played at Malina Sports Hall in Malacky, recently reworked with rebuilt stands, shared with volleyball and other tenants rather than kept as a handball-only ground.

Being five years old leaves Záhoráci without an old enemy to point to. There is no derby waiting on the calendar, only a run of regional matches against sides like HK Slovan Modra and HC Sporta Hlohovec. The genuine measuring stick sits further up the table in HT Tatran Prešov, the club that has set the standard in Slovak handball for years.
