Three Czechoslovak championships came in three consecutive seasons, in 1973, 1975 and 1976, with a domestic cup added in the first of those years — a run that made the club, then still competing under the ČH Bratislava name, the strongest force in the country's handball. That side traced back to 1947, when a handball section formed inside the Telovýchovný klub Národnej bezpečnosti, first fielding a women's team and then, that same autumn, a men's team. The police connection gave the club its lasting identity: after Czechoslovakia's political changes in 1990, it was re-established as ŠKP Bratislava, Športový klub polície, picking up where ČH Bratislava had left off rather than starting over.

Since Slovak independence, the championship has stayed just out of reach — two runner-up finishes, in 1996/97 and 1998/99, and repeated third-place spots, but no title. The Slovak Cup has come twice, in 1997 and 2000, giving the club something to show from an era when the league itself proved harder to crack than it once was.

Peter Pospíšil, the goalkeeper who won Olympic silver with Czechoslovakia in 1972, remains the name attached to the club's strongest period, while Miroslav Volentics carried the shirt on the right wing all the way through to 2015. The rivalry with HK Košice, contested as the Košicko-bratislavské derby, has outlasted most of the club's other local contests.

Home games are played at the ŠH LF UK in Mlynská Dolina, a hall that holds barely 167 spectators.
