Twice in a row, in 1982 and 1983, ŽRK Osijek lifted the EHF Cup Winners' Cup, a run built under coach Ivica Nikolić that stands as the club's only European silverware. A few years earlier, under Ante Kostelić, the same generation had already taken the Yugoslav Cup in 1978 and 1981.

Since Croatian independence, the league title and national cup have both stayed out of reach, the closest the club has come being runners-up in the 1. HRL in 1999/2000, a season that also carried them to the semi-finals of the EHF Cup.

The club now plays as ŽRK Osijek, but it took the name only in 1968; for the first fourteen years it was known as Grafičar, set up in 1954 by workers from the city's graphic and printing trade.
