About

The AIFF Super Cup stands as the premier domestic knockout football competition in India, organized by the All India Football Federation (AIFF). Founded in 2018 to replace the discontinued Federation Cup, it occupies the top tier of the national cup structure, operating separately from the Indian Super League. The tournament serves as the primary route for clubs to qualify for the AFC Champions League Two.

The competition typically gathers sixteen teams, comprising all clubs from the Indian Super League alongside the top-performing sides from the I-League, which forms the second tier. Its format has shifted over time; after a pure knockout structure in its first season, the event now employs a group stage followed by semi-finals and a final. The 2025–26 edition utilized four groups of four teams, with only group winners advancing to the knockout phase.

Bengaluru FC claimed the inaugural title in 2018. FC Goa has emerged as the most successful club, securing three titles, including victories in 2019 and the 2025–26 season. East Bengal FC currently holds the trophy after defeating Goa on penalties in the final of the 2025–26 edition.

The tournament experienced a suspension between 2020 and 2022 due to the global pandemic. In 2019, several I-League clubs withdrew from the event. The 2024 edition was sponsored by the state of Odisha and was officially known as the Kalinga Super Cup. While the historic Durand Cup, established in 1888, retains its connection to armed forces teams, the Super Cup focuses on a modern format and provides the main berth for continental competition.
