Campeonato Nacional Feminino (Portugal) 2026/27

Campeonato Nacional Feminino is the premier women’s football competition in Portugal. Founded in 1993 by the Portuguese Football Federation, it replaced the Taça Nacional as the country’s leading tournament. The league operates at the summit of the women’s pyramid, though it remains distinct from the men’s professional structure. Unlike the men’s Primeira Liga, which is managed by the independent LPFP, this competition is organized directly by the FPF.

The 2025–26 campaign features ten clubs, a reduction from twelve in the previous year. The format is a double round-robin, meaning each team plays eighteen matches. There are no play-offs for the title; the champion is decided purely by final standings. The winner earns a place in the UEFA Women’s Champions League. Relegation sees the tenth-place team drop to the Campeonato Nacional II Divisão Feminino, while promotion brings in the second division champion and a play-off winner between the ninth-place first-division side and the runners-up of the lower tier.

S.U. 1º de Dezembro holds the historical record for success, having claimed twelve titles. This includes an eleven-year winning streak that defined the early era of the competition. More recently, SL Benfica has emerged as the dominant force. The Lisbon club has won six consecutive titles from the 2020–21 season through to the current year. Major reforms have shaped the league’s modern identity. A push for professionalism in 2016–17 saw significant men’s clubs like Sporting Braga enter the fray. A sponsorship deal with Banco BPI in 2018 led to the league being known as Liga BPI. Most clubs operate on a semi-professional basis, reflecting the smaller scale of the tournament compared to its male counterpart.
