CONMEBOL - Pre-Olympic Tournament 2024/25

The CONMEBOL Pre-Olympic Tournament is the qualification competition for the men's football tournament at the Summer Olympic Games. Organised by the South American confederation, the event operates on a four-year cycle. It began in 1960 in Peru, where Argentina claimed the inaugural title. The schedule was interrupted between 2007 and 2015, during which time the South American Youth Championship filled the qualification role. The event returned in 2020.

Participation includes all ten member nations of the confederation. The format generally features a preliminary group stage followed by a final stage. The 2024 edition in Venezuela used two groups of five teams, with the top two from each advancing to a final quadrangular round-robin. The two highest-placed teams in that final stage earn places at the Olympics. Argentina as runners-up in that edition.

Age eligibility has changed over time. Before 1992, the tournament featured senior or non-professional players. Since 1992, it has been an Under-23 competition, with a rule allowing up to three over-age players per squad since 1996.

Brazil holds the record for most titles with seven victories. Argentina follows with five wins. Paraguay has won twice, including the 2024 edition. The competition is distinct from the U-20 South American Championship, which serves as a World Cup qualifier for the younger age group. The next tournament is scheduled for 2028 to qualify for the Los Angeles Games.
