The Gran-Pará Cup operates as a secondary knockout tournament within the football calendar of Pará, Brazil. Organised by the Federação Paraense de Futebol, the competition launched in 2024 to provide an additional route to national competition for local clubs. Unlike the primary state championship, this event targets teams that have already been eliminated from the main series.
The field comprises six clubs, drawn from those knocked out in the quarterfinals and semifinals of the Campeonato Paraense Série A1. The structure relies on a single-leg knockout system, known locally as a mata-mata. Early stages pit quarterfinal losers against one another, while the subsequent semifinals pair those victors with their counterparts eliminated in the previous round's latter stages. Every fixture is decided in ninety minutes; if the score remains level, the outcome is determined directly by a penalty shootout, with no extra time played.
The stakes involve more than regional pride. The champion receives a trophy and a direct berth into the Copa do Brasil, bypassing the usual qualification hurdles. This offers a vital opportunity for clubs such as Cametá, Castanhal, Santa Rosa, Bragantino PA, Tuna Luso, and Capitao Poco to compete on a national stage. The inaugural edition in 2024 was claimed by Tuna Luso, who secured victory on penalties. The following year, Águia de Marabá defeated Tuna Luso in a similar fashion to take the title.
The tournament runs parallel to the SuperCopa Grão-Pará, which features a single match between previous champions, but focuses on rewarding recent high performance rather than historical dominance. By giving eliminated sides a second chance, the competition ensures that the season concludes with meaningful fixtures for fewer teams than the main league. The winner earns recognition and the financial benefits associated with participating in the Brazilian national cup.
