The Azerbaijan Cup stands as the primary domestic knockout football competition in the country. Organised by the Association of Football Federations of Azerbaijan (AFFA), it sits on the domestic hierarchy below the league system but above the Azerbaijan Super Cup. While a Cup of the Azerbaijan SSR existed from 1936 to 1991 during the Soviet era, the modern independent competition was founded in 1992.
The tournament features clubs from the Azerbaijan Premier League (1st tier) and the Azerbaijan First League (2nd tier). The format typically begins with a preliminary round for lower-division teams, followed by a second round where Premier League clubs enter. Quarterfinals and semifinals are played over two legs (home and away), while the final is a single match.
The winner qualifies for the UEFA Europa Conference League second qualifying round. Qarabağ FK is the most successful club with 8 titles, followed by Neftçi Baku with 6. The current holder (as of the 2024–25 season) is Sabah FK, who defeated Qarabağ 3–2 in the final on May 31, 2025.
The competition is distinct from the Azerbaijan Super Cup, which is a single match played between the league champion and the cup winner, held at the start of the season. The Super Cup has been irregular, with significant gaps in its history (1996–2012) and no matches since 2013.
Clubs such as İrəvan, Neftchi Baku, Mil-Muğan, Şəki PFK, Xankəndi FK, and Şamaxı participate in the current season.
