About

The Campeonato Paraense Série B1, currently known as Série A2, is the second tier of professional football in the Brazilian state of Pará. Founded in 1994 by the Federação Paraense de Futebol (FPF), the competition sits below the top-flight Série A1 and above the third tier, Série A3. In 2025, the FPF officially renamed the divisions to align with national standards, changing Série B1 to Série A2.

The format consists of four phases: a group stage with four groups where the top two teams advance, followed by quarterfinals, semifinals, and a final. Both legs of the knockout stages are played, except for the final. Promotion to Série A1 is awarded to the champion and the runner-up. Relegation from Série A2 sends the last-placed team from each group to Série A3.

The most successful clubs are Bragantino and Vila Rica, each with three titles. Bragantino won in 2002, 2011, and 2017; Vila Rica won in 1995, 2001, and 2007. Other multiple winners include Pedreira (1994, 2000), Carajás/Time Negra (1999, 2013), Vênus (2005, 2014), and Independente (2009, 2024). The current holder is Independente Atlético Clube (Independente Tucuruí), which won the 2024 title by defeating Capitão Poço 2-1 in the final. In 2023, Canaã won the title, with both Canaã and runner-up Santa Rosa promoted to the top flight.

Unlike the top-tier Série A1, the Série A2 does not offer direct qualification for national competitions such as the Copa do Brasil or Copa Verde; these are reserved for Série A1 participants. The primary distinction of this league is its role as a feeder system for the state's elite, providing a pathway for smaller regional clubs to reach the professional top flight. Notable participants in recent years include Santos PA, União Paraense, Tapajós, and CA Vila Rica.
