The **Campeonato Piauiense** stands as the premier professional football league in the Brazilian state of Piauí, operating at the fourth tier of the national pyramid. Established in 1916 by the Liga Sportiva Parnahybana, the competition transitioned to a professional structure in 1963. It serves as a critical pathway for clubs seeking advancement to the Campeonato Brasileiro Série D and entry into the Copa do Brasil.
The current season features six participating teams: Altos, Atlético Piauiense, Corí-Sabbá, Fluminense PI, Oeirense, and Parnahyba. Matches follow a format that begins with a group stage, dividing sides into two groups of four for double round-robin play. The top performers from this phase advance to a knockout stage comprising quarterfinals, semifinals, and a final decided over two legs.
Historical depth defines the tournament. Between 1916 and 1940, the competition operated under a dual-league structure split between Parnaíba and Teresina. This era also saw the unique inclusion of EC Timon, a club from the neighbouring state of Maranhão, aarranged due to geographic proximity.
Ríver Atlético Clube holds the record for dominance in the competition. They have secured 32 titles, including a seven-consecutive title streak, known as a heptacampeonato, between 1950 and 1956. In the most recent edition, Piauí Esporte Clube claimed the championship for 2026.
The league is governed by the Federação de Futebol do Piauí (FFP). The organization manages the annual cycle of promotion and relegation, ensuring that the top two teams from the second division, known as Série B, move up to Série A, while the bottom two sides from Série A drop down. This system maintains competitive balance within the regional football hierarchy.
