The Saudi Pro League stands as the premier tier of professional football in the Kingdom. Governed by the Saudi Arabian Football Federation, it occupies the highest position in the national pyramid. The competition began in 1957 under the name His Majesty's League before evolving into its current structure. After adopting a distinctive "Golden Box" knockout format for the top four teams from 1990 to 2007, the league shifted to a standard double round-robin system. That structure remains in place today, with each club playing 34 matches.
Al Hilal holds the record for the most titles with 21 wins. The reigning champion is Al Nassr. The league expanded to 18 clubs for the 2023–24 campaign. Promotion and relegation involve the bottom three sides dropping to the First Division. The top two teams from that second tier gain automatic promotion, while a fourth spot is decided through a play-off involving teams finishing third through sixth.
The competition distinguishes itself from the King's Cup, which operates as a knockout tournament, and the Saudi Super Cup, an annual fixture between the league and cup winners. Structural changes have included relaxed regulations permitting up to 10 foreign players in squads. These adjustments follow broader reforms where the Public Investment Fund acquired stakes in major clubs. The league currently features clubs such as Abha, Al Diriyah, Al Khaleej Saihat, Al Kholood, Al Riyadh, and Al Shabab.
Individual achievements within the league include Cristiano Ronaldo holding the single-season scoring record with 35 goals in 2023–24. Majed Abdullah remains the all-time top scorer with 189 goals. The competition is currently sponsored as the Roshn Saudi League. These elements combine to define the landscape of Saudi football at its highest level.
