About

The Belarusian Reserve League, officially known as the Championship of Belarus among reserve teams of the Higher League, was established in 2013 under the auspices of the Belarusian Football Federation (BFF). For over a decade, the competition operated as a parallel closed system alongside the Belarusian Premier League, the country’s top tier. Participation was restricted exclusively to the reserve squads of Premier League clubs, meaning the league was not part of the national pyramid’s promotion or relegation structure.

The standard format consisted of a double round-robin tournament. In its final full regular season in 2023, the competition featured fifteen teams. Dinamo Minsk Reserves secured the title in that campaign, finishing with 82 points. Before its creation in 2013, Belarus lacked a unified national reserve league, with reserve sides instead competing in regional championships or the Second League, which was the third tier.

Organizational reforms in 2024 brought significant changes to the structure of youth football in the country. Following conflicts between the BFF and the Ministry of Sports, the standalone Reserve League was effectively discontinued. Reserve teams were integrated into the professional pyramid instead. Five top reserve teams, including BATE-2 and Dinamo-2 Minsk, joined the First League, which is the second tier. The remaining reserve teams were placed in the Second League, divided into three geographical zones: North, West, and East. The 2024 season of the original Reserve League was cancelled.

The competition’s primary distinction lay in its exclusive focus on developing youth talent through competitive matches for reserve squads of top-flight clubs, rather than serving as a feeder league for senior professional promotion.
