The Supercopa Uruguaya serves as the official super cup for Uruguayan football, organized by Asociación Uruguaya de Fútbol (AUF). Founded in 2018 following AUF approval in 2015, it acts as the curtain-raiser for the new season, typically held in January or February. The competition is a single-match knockout tournament played at a neutral venue.
Participants are determined by specific achievements: the champion of the previous year's Liga AUF Uruguaya (Primera División) and the winner of the Torneo Intermedio, a mid-season tournament. If the same club wins both titles, the runner-up of the Torneo Intermedio qualifies as the second participant. Matches follow standard knockout rules: if a draw occurs after 90 minutes, the game proceeds to 30 minutes of extra time, followed by a penalty shootout if necessary.
As of the 2026 edition, three clubs share the record for most titles: Nacional, Peñarol, and Liverpool, each with three victories. Peñarol won the inaugural 2018 edition by defeating Nacional 3–1. Nacional secured titles in 2019, 2021, and 2025. Liverpool claimed victories in 2020, 2023, and 2024. In the 2026 final, Peñarol secured their third title by defeating Nacional 4–2 on penalties after a 0–0 draw.
This competition is distinct from the Copa AUF Uruguay, which is open to clubs from all divisions including amateur teams from the Organización del Fútbol del Interior (OFI). The Supercopa is restricted exclusively to top-flight clubs. It is also separate from the Copa de la Liga AUF, a league cup introduced in 2026 involving all 16 Primera División teams, although rules exist to merge finals if the same two teams qualify for both.
