The Icelandic Men's Football Super Cup serves as the annual curtain-raiser for the domestic season, typically contested in May. Organised by the Football Association of Iceland, the fixture pits the reigning champions of the top-tier league against the holders of the national cup. Should a single club secure both honours, the final instead matches that side against the league runner-up. This structure ensures the contest features the two strongest teams from the previous campaign.
The tournament follows a single-match format decided within normal time, extra time, or a penalty shootout. Valur Reykjavík holds the record for the most victories, claiming eleven titles between 1977 and 2018. FH Hafnarfjörður, Fram Reykjavík, Keflavík ÍF, and KR Reykjavík follow with six wins each. Breiðablik currently hold the trophy after defeating KA Akureyri 3–1 in the 2025 final.
The competition underwent a significant hiatus from 1999 to 2002 before its modern iteration was revived. While early editions sometimes featured multiple legs, the current single fixture has remained standard since the revival. The event does not confer European qualification spots and carries lower prestige than the league championship or the knockout cup tournament. A separate women’s version of the competition exists, having been established in 1992.
