About

The Saudi Super Cup is an annual invitational football tournament that serves as the season curtain-raiser in Saudi Arabia. Currently known as the Diriyah Super Cup due to sponsorship by Diriyah Company, the event was officially founded in 2013 by the Saudi Arabian Football Federation (SAFF). It is played typically in August before the main domestic competitions begin, distinguishing itself from the league and the primary cup competition through its format. The competition is a knockout tournament, distinct from the league and the primary cup competition. Since 2022, the tournament features a four-team format consisting of two semi-finals and a final, all played as single matches. If tied after 90 minutes, the winner is decided by a penalty shoot-out. The four participants are the winner and runner-up of the previous season's Saudi Pro League, and the winner and runner-up of the previous season's King's Cup. If a team wins the "double" (both league and cup), they qualify via their league title, and their cup winner spot is passed to the cup runner-up. Al-Hilal is the most successful club with five titles (2015, 2018, 2021, 2023, 2024). Al-Nassr and Al-Ahli have two titles each. Al-Ahli won the 2025 edition, defeating Al-Nassr 5–3 on penalties after a 2–2 draw. Prior to 2022, it was a single match between the league winner and cup winner. There were precursor matches in 1979 and 1999, but these were not part of an official annual tournament structure. The first edition was played in August 2013, won by Al-Fateh. It was previously sponsored by Beryn Water (2021–2023) and is currently sponsored by Diriyah Company.
