Super League 2 (Greece) 2026/27

The Superbet League 2 serves as the second tier of the Greek football league system, positioned directly beneath the Super League 1. Since its inception in 2019, the competition has evolved significantly in structure, moving from a single-table format to a split arrangement before returning to a unified model. The current season features a single group of 16 teams, where the top two sides earn direct promotion while the bottom four face relegation to the Gamma Ethniki. This streamlined approach replaces the previous playoff and relegation phases that characterised the era of two regional divisions.

A defining characteristic of the league is the inclusion of reserve teams from top-flight clubs. These 'B' teams, such as those from major Athens and Thessaloniki sides, compete alongside senior clubs but remain ineligible for promotion to the Super League 1. They cannot participate in the Greek Cup either, yet they remain subject to relegation, adding a layer of complexity to the standings. This setup allows developing players to gain experience in a competitive environment without disrupting the primary hierarchy of the national system.

Organised under the auspices of the Hellenic Football Federation (EPO), the league replaced the Football League, formerly known as Beta Ethniki, to modernise the second division. The competition carries official sponsorship naming, currently operating as the Superbet League 2. While the inaugural season was cancelled due to the pandemic, subsequent years have seen various formats, including the introduction of regional groups in 2021. The current structure aims to balance competitive fairness with the development needs of young talent across the country.
