About

The Supercopa Paraguay is the ceremonial closing event for the domestic football season, played at the neutral Estadio Defensores del Chaco in Asunción. Organized by the Asociación Paraguaya de Fútbol (APF), the tournament crowns the 'Supercampeón' of the year rather than serving as a mandatory qualification route for continental competitions. The fixture is a single-match final between the winner of the Copa Paraguay and the Primera División champion with the best aggregate record. A specific rule introduced in 2023 handles the scenario where a single club wins the Apertura, Clausura, and Copa Paraguay simultaneously; in this case, the match is cancelled and the title awarded automatically. Matches decided after 90 minutes proceed directly to a penalty shootout without extra time.

The inaugural edition took place in December 2021 after an initial delay due to the pandemic. Cerro Porteño claimed the first title, defeating General Caballero (JLM) in a subsequent September 2025 encounter to become the current holder. Libertad and Olimpia share the record for the most titles, each having won twice. Sportivo Ameliano secured the 2022 edition, while Libertad also won automatically in 2023 and 2024. Olimpia’s victories span 2021 and 2024. The competition remains distinct from the Copa Paraguay, which involves 74 teams across all divisions and acts as a qualifier for the Copa Libertadores and Copa Sudamericana. Since its inception, the Supercopa has featured no official sponsors in its name.
