General Caballero

On 17 November 2025 General Caballero beat Sportivo 2 de Mayo in the final of the Copa Paraguay.

The club was founded on 21 June 1962 in Juan León Mallorquín, a town in Alto Paraná. For most of that time it played outside the professional structure. The climb was recent and quick.

Home is the Estadio Ka'arendy, rebuilt in 2022 and holding 10,120 — one of the few grounds in the top flight that sits well away from the capital. It carried the name Estadio Leandro Ovelar before the rebuild.

In the league the club has spent its seasons near the bottom, and the fixtures that matter most are the ones against Sportivo 2 de Mayo and Sportivo Ameliano — meetings between sides that need the points badly, played as often as not in the closing weeks. Paraguayan reporters call them the clásico de necesitados.

Los Rojos play in red shirts and black shorts. Cup football has its own rules, and the 2025 final proved it: nothing in the club's league record before that night suggested a national title. What the record still lacks is a top-flight season in which survival was settled before the last month.
