Paraguarí sits in the department of the same name, a farming town whose weekends have long run on the fixtures of its own regional league. For years that meant eleven separate clubs pulling players from the same streets and competing for the same small crowd. On 1 July 2025 that arrangement ended: Club 1° de Marzo, Club 1° de Mayo, Club 15 de Mayo, Club 26 de Febrero, Club 3 de Mayo, Acosta Ñu, Atlético 3 de Febrero, Atlético General Bruguez, Cerro Porteño, Sport Cerro León, Sud América, Teniente Francia and Nacional FC merged into a single institution, Paraguarí Atlético Club.

It is not a revival of any one of those names. The new club took its badge, its red-and-white kit and its ground from the arrangement, but not its identity from a single predecessor — the closest link to the past is the pitch itself, Estadio General Bruguez, in the centre of town, which belonged to Club Atlético General Bruguez and now holds 2,000 people for Paraguarí's own matches.

What forced the merger was a shared shot at promotion. Playing as a combined selección of the regional league, Paraguarí won the Interligas tournament in 2025 and with it a place in the División Intermedia, the Paraguayan second tier, for the 2025/26 season. Enrique Vera took charge of the squad for that campaign — a coach who played for Olimpia, Vélez Sarsfield and Lanús and was capped by the national team, now steering a club with no trophies of its own and, so far, no official website.

The town has sent players higher before: Francisco Arce, who captained Paraguay at the 1998 and 2002 World Cups, started out at Club 15 de Mayo, one of the eleven that no longer plays under its own name.

Thirteen clubs went in. One came out, with room for 2,000 in the stands.
