Atlético Tembetary

Atlético Tembetary began life on 3 August 1912 as Bermejo Foot-Ball Club, and only took its present name at an extraordinary assembly on 21 March 1920.

The nickname Los Rojiverdes comes straight from the district it left behind: red and green, the colours chosen for the thorns and leaves of the tembetary tree that gave the neighbourhood its name. The club has spent most of its recent history working up through Paraguay's lower divisions rather than competing at the top. It won Primera División C in 2018 to earn promotion, then took the Metropolitan tournament in Primera División B in 2023, which lifted it into División Intermedia, the country's second tier, where it now plays. In the Copa Paraguay it reached the semi-finals in both 2021 and 2022.

Estadio Tembetary in Ypané remains the current home ground, but the club's ambitions have outgrown it. Construction began in March 2025 on a new stadium in Luque, Estadio Maramburé, also referred to as Estadio Complejo Rojiverde. Its first phase, planned for 7,000 spectators, is due to open in 2026.

Of the names attached to the club, one carries more weight than the rest. Nelson Haedo Valdez came up through Tembetary's youth system before going on to a career that made him one of Paraguay's recognised forwards abroad, and he has credited the club with turning him into a footballer and teaching him to stand on his own.
