2 de Mayo

The night in Ceibo, in 2005, was the first time anyone from Pedro Juan Caballero saw the club they had followed since 1935 admitted to Paraguay's top flight. The stay lasted four seasons, through to 2008/2009, then ended, and 2 de Mayo spent the better part of two decades working its way back through the lower divisions, winning the Tercera División three times along the way, in 2003, 2011 and 2017, before the 2023 title in the Segunda División returned it to the top division a second time.

That second run has gone further than the first. In the Clausura of 2024 the club finished third, its best league placing in the top flight, and by the 2024/2025 season it had a place in the 2026 Copa Libertadores to show for it — a fixture list no side from this corner of the country had reached before.

Pedro Juan Caballero sits on the Brazilian border, and the club carries the border town's name into every league table it appears on. Locally it goes by El Gallo Norteño, the Northern Rooster, and it plays in white at home, orange and dark blue away, at the Estadio Monumental Río Parapití.
