Sportivo Trinidense

Sportivo Trinidense has never won the Paraguayan top flight. In 2023 the side from Asunción reached the final of the Copa Paraguay, played its first Copa Sudamericana campaign, and worked through the Copa Libertadores qualifying rounds as far as the third round, where Colo-Colo ended the run.

The club's usual business has been played out in the lower divisions since 11 August 1935, when a group of neighbours from the Santísima Trinidad district met at the house of founding president Manuel Arce González. The name and the badge both trace back to that parish dedication; the ground carries the name of Martín Torres, one of the men at that founding meeting.

Trinidense has gone up and down between the top two divisions more than once. Promotion in 1994 was its first taste of the Primera División; relegation in 2007 followed a second-place finish in the Intermedio the year before. The División Intermedia title has come twice, in 2009 and 2022, and each time it sent the club back up. Lower down, four Tercera División championships — 1982, 1987, 1990 and 2002 — mark the years spent rebuilding.

Estadio Martín Torres holds 3,000, modest even by Paraguayan standards, and it sits close enough to Rubio Ñu's own ground to have produced a fixture with a name of its own: El Clásico de Santísima Trinidad, two clubs from the same district.

The name most attached to that recent run abroad belongs further back: Juan Iturbe, who wore the auriazul before a career that took him through Argentina and Italy.
