About the player
Luis Abreu did not have to travel far to score. On 3 May 2025, with Olimpia and Cerro Porteño level at Nueva Olla, the young midfielder came off the bench and struck in the 92nd minute to give Olimpia a 2-1 win in the Superclásico.
That moment came less than three months after his debut. Abreu, born in San Pedro del Ycuamandiyú, spent eight years at local club 29 de Junio before moving into Olimpia's academy. He stepped into the first team on 10 February 2025, coming on as a substitute in a 1-0 win over Sportivo Luqueño in the Primera División.
Standing 184cm and playing with his right foot, Abreu went on to feature for Olimpia across the Primera División, the Copa Libertadores and the Copa Sudamericana. In July 2026, the club sent him on a season-long loan to Sportivo Trinidense, where he wears the number 22 shirt, with Olimpia retaining an option to recall him after six months and a return to the club planned for July 2027.
