Elgin City put Fraserburgh to the sword 7-0 in the Challenge Cup Group Stage 3 on 2026-09-08, a result that redrew the complexion of the group entirely. The hosts found a way through from the opening exchanges and never looked back, while the visitors were out of sight by half-time and never recovered their composure.
K. Willox opened the scoring at 14 minutes, a clinical finish that set the tone for what followed. J. Murray added a penalty at 21 and then another goal at 45, turning it around after the break when Fraserburgh thought they could salvage something. M. Gallagher scored at 33, and L. MacDonald continued the onslaught at 59 minutes before C. Brown made it 6-0 at 64. J. Adams then turned the knife in with an own goal at 76.
By then the match was beyond resolution, and the statistics tell a story of dominance rather than contest. Both sides held 50% possession, yet Elgin registered six shots on target to Fraserburgh's zero, while the visitors' goalkeeper was called into action only three times. Elgin created opportunities through volume — 38 attacks to 28 — though neither side managed to carve out a big chance.
The result ends a barren spell for Elgin, who had lost 1-2 to Dambarton on their previous outing but otherwise showed promise with victories over Sterling Albion and Clachnacuddin. Fraserburgh's run of results suggests they are struggling to find consistency, with defeats to Montrose and Banks O' Dee among their recent form.
Elgin City now sit at the summit of the group with 9 points from three matches, while Fraserburgh remain winless at the bottom with zero points. The seven-goal margin will serve as a reminder that cup football has its own rules, and this was a day when Elgin threw everything at it and won comfortably.
