Casa Pia ended their winless run with a 2:1 victory over Estoril in the Primera Liga's seventh round at the Estadio António Coimbra da Mota. The match finished 1:2 in favour of the visitors, who had just one point from six games before kick-off. Estoril came into the fixture on two points, sitting seventeenth in the table.
Ricard Sanchez Sendra gave the hosts the lead in the 70th minute, but the advantage lasted barely two minutes. Selvi Clua equalised for Casa Pia in the 72nd, and Benjamin Pauwels completed the turnaround with a goal in the 89th. To be fair, the match had been waiting for something to happen.
Estoril had created their best opportunity earlier when Henrique Araújo missed a penalty in the 27th minute. The visitors saw their chance to go ahead come and go, and by then the momentum had shifted. Axel Camblan came on for Araújo at half-time, but the substitution did not change the afternoon's direction.
Estoril dominated possession at 53 per cent but could not convert their dominance into clear-cut chances. They registered 12 shots with six on target, generating 0.95 expected goals. Casa Pia managed just 10 shots and three on target, yet their expected goals figure stood at 2.17. The visitors created two big chances, the same number as the hosts, but they took them when it mattered.
The result leaves Estoril still on two points in seventeenth place, while Casa Pia move to three points and remain eighteenth. Both sides have now played six matches without a victory, which means neither will be looking for promotion talks anytime soon. We had backed Estoril at 55 per cent confidence, but the match went another way entirely.
