FOCUSPORT saw off SONABEL 3-2 in Ligue 1's Regular Season round two, played on Saturday 26 September at their home ground. The hosts moved into second place with six points from two games, while SONABEL remain bottom of the table with a goal difference of minus four.
D. M. Goho opened the scoring in the 35th minute before J. Aaron levelled shortly after the break in the 49th. FOCUSPORT took control with an unattributed goal in the 66th minute, then extended their lead through S. Sangare's penalty in the 82nd. I. Ouedraogo pulled one back late on for SONABEL in the 85th minute, but the visitors could not find another.
By then, FOCUSPORT had established enough of a cushion to withstand the late pressure. To be fair, SONABEL showed character after going behind, but they lacked the composure to equalise when opportunities arose.
The result means FOCUSPORT sit second on six points after beating DUAN 1-0 last week, while SONABEL have lost both matches so far, including a 0-1 defeat to MAJESTIC on 18 September.
SONABEL now face a difficult path back into contention, but there is still time to turn things around. FOCUSPORT, meanwhile, are building momentum with two wins from two.
