Stade Municipal

Built between 1928 and 1931 to a design by the architect Schönberg, it opened on 1 March 1931 on Route d'Arlon in Belair, and kept the name Stade Municipal until 1993, when it was renamed for Josy Barthel — the only Olympic champion Luxembourg has produced, over 1500 metres in 1952.

The reconstruction of 1990, finished the following year, turned it into an all-seat multi-purpose venue, and Tina Turner played there on 4 September 1996 on the Wildest Dreams Tour. A €230,000 upgrade in 2014, aimed at meeting UEFA requirements ahead of Euro 2016, did not win it full clearance.

Rangers lost 1-0 to Progrès Niederkorn here in 2017; F91 Dudelange hosted Milan the following year, going down 1-0, and then Sevilla, beaten 5-2. The national team's last match on the pitch came on 30 March 2021, a 3-1 defeat by Portugal, before the move to the new Stade de Luxembourg.

The natural grass was relaid in 2019. In June 2023 part of the main stand roof came down and the ground closed for repairs. It now stands on the site of the Wunnquartier Stade, awaiting demolition.
