Morocco defeated Lesotho 2:0 in their second Group Stage fixture of the AFCON qualifiers on 29 September 2026. The visitors took control early, scoring twice before the break and never looking back. By then they had already settled any debate about who deserved the points.
Brahim Díaz opened the scoring in the 45th minute, catching Lesotho off-guard on the stroke of half-time. The Moroccan side worked a short corner to find space, and Díaz was there to finish. Lesotho made a change at the interval, bringing on Teboho Letsema, but the damage was done.
The second half belonged entirely to Morocco. They pushed forward relentlessly, and Azzedine Ounahi doubled the lead in the 82nd minute. Lesotho's coach threw on T. Mafatle and Ismael Saibari, but the match had already been decided. Morocco went for the jugular in those final minutes.
There were two yellow cards on the night, both for Morocco. Oussama Targhalline picked up his booking in the 73rd minute, and Soufiane Rahimi followed in the 85th. The hosts had nothing to do all evening after the first goal.
The statistics tell a one-sided story. Morocco held 80 per cent possession and completed 744 of 805 passes, while Lesotho managed 126 of 188. The visitors registered five shots on target to Lesotho's one, and their attack count reached 176 compared with 42. Many shots with two goals meant chances went begging for the home side.
The result puts Morocco firmly in control of their qualifying path. Lesotho's run of results has not improved — they lost 1:2 to Niger on 25 September and drew 1:1 with Kenya in June. Morocco won 2:0 against Gabon in their previous outing. The gap between the two sides is wider than the scoreline suggests.
