Match report

Podrónie Beat Bytča 3:1 in Second League Encounter

Podrónie secured a comfortable 3:1 victory over Bytča in the fourth round of the Second League regular season on Thursday. The hosts took control early and never looked back, adding three points to their seventh-place standing. To be fair, the result reflected a performance that was sharp when it mattered. A. Lohmatov opened the scoring in the 11th minute, and J. Michlik doubled the lead before half-time with two goals in quick succession. By then, Bytča had already lost their composure after D. Hundak converted a penalty in the 35th minute following a yellow card for P. Rodriguez. The visitors found themselves chasing the game from that point onwards. Substitutions followed in a flurry. Bytča brought on S. Kastan and M. Zajac in the 36th minute, while the hosts made a double change at the interval with P. Filippov and M. Dumbuya. More came later — Bytča introduced R. Planeta in the 63rd minute, and then made three changes in quick succession around the 70th minute mark. Podrónie also made four substitutions between the 70th and 72nd minutes, with Michlik finally coming off in the 84th. The statistics tell a simple story. Podrónie dominated possession and created more chances, while Bytča struggled to find any rhythm. The hosts had 58 per cent of the ball and registered 14 shots compared to the visitors' 6. Expected goals favoured the home side by a comfortable margin. This result moves Podrónie up to third place with 13 points from seven games. Bytča remain rooted at the bottom with just three points and no draws to their name. And here's the thing — the gap between them is now ten points, which feels like a chasm in this league. Looking at recent form, the contrast was already visible before kickoff. Podrónie had drawn with Baník and beaten Považská Bystrica, though they also suffered a 1:2 defeat away at Žilina II. Bytča's last five matches read like a cautionary tale — four losses including a 0:3 hammering at Inter Bratislava and a 0:4 thumping at Petržalka. The match itself was never in doubt after Michlik's second goal. Podrónie controlled the tempo and made no mistakes when it counted. Bytča's manager will need to address a defence that has conceded 16 goals in seven games. Third place is within reach for the hosts, but they must maintain this level of consistency.
