Rapid Wien lost 1-2 to Rapid Vienna in the Austrian Bundesliga on Sunday. The result keeps the hosts ninth in the table while Rapid Vienna move further clear in third place.
J. Horn opened the scoring for the visitors early on, striking in the eighth minute. Rapid Wien responded through S. Schwab, who equalised in the 74th minute. But M. Haidara turned the game around for Rapid Vienna with a goal in the 77th minute, and that proved decisive.
There were plenty of changes across the second half. Rapid Wien brought on E. E. Aisowieren in the 60th minute, followed by P. Dahl, T. Adamsen, N. Bajlicz, O. Sorg, and E. Kara late on. Rapid Vienna made three substitutions in the final third of the match.
The numbers tell one story, but the match told another. Rapid Wien had 46 per cent possession and 16 key passes, while Rapid Vienna held 54 per cent and registered just seven. The hosts hit the woodwork and forced their keeper to make only one save, while the visitors' goalkeeper had to work harder with eight stops to his name.
It was a result that fit the form lines. Rapid Wien have taken just four points from five games, with three defeats so far. Rapid Vienna sit on 12 points after four wins and one loss, and they extended that run with this away victory.
Two yellow cards came in the 86th minute, one each for M. Rasner and B. Bolla. The visitors closed the game out after that, and the hosts were left to reflect on a match where they created more chances but failed to take them when it mattered.
