Vittsjö and Växjö Share Points in Damallsvenskan Draw
Vittsjö hosted Växjö in the nineteenth round of the Damallsvenskan on Saturday, and the match ended 2-2 after a chaotic finish. The hosts took a comfortable lead through two first-half goals before Växjö clawed back with an own goal and a late equaliser. By then, both sides had made several changes, but neither manager could find a winner.
Anna Haddock opened the scoring in the twenty-fifth minute, and Maggie Cagle doubled the advantage five minutes later. Växjö had a yellow card to contend with when Nellie Karlsson went off the ball early on, and Mariann Nielsen added another in the forty-third. The hosts then turned to their bench, bringing on Thelma Welin and Amanda Altheden in quick succession.
The second half did not produce much clarity. Vittsjö took Cagle off in the sixty-first minute, while Växjö brought on Tilda Sanden in the seventy-sixth. Then came the own goal from Julia Tunturi in the seventy-eighth minute, which brought Växjö back into the contest. And here's the thing — they did not stop there. Tyra Andersson fired home in stoppage time to level things at 2-2.
The statistics tell a story of relative parity. Both teams held fifty per cent possession and registered similar numbers of attacks and corners. Vittsjö managed nine shots on target compared to six for Växjö, yet the visitors still found a way to salvage a point. The extra shots on target did not translate into a victory, which is not uncommon in this league.
After nineteen games, Vittsjö sit seventh with twenty-six points while Växjö remain eleventh on eighteen. The result does not move either side dramatically in the table, but it ends a run of poor form for the visitors who had lost four of their last five matches. The hosts, meanwhile, showed resilience after their heavy defeat to Hacken earlier in the month.
