Old Firm: away fans banned for rest of 2026/27 season

Away supporters will be shut out of every Old Firm fixture in this season,, after Celtic and Rangers failed to agree a reduced allocation for the Premier Sports Cup quarter-final at Ibrox on 13 September.

Rangers had proposed cutting the away allocation for that tie well below the 5% previously agreed for Premiership and League Cup matches, citing the risks around the fixture. Celtic rejected the revised terms, and the league stepped in to mediate.

«After further discussions involving both clubs and the SPFL, agreement has been reached that there will be no away supporters for matches involving Rangers and Celtic in SPFL competitions for the remainder of the 2026/27 season,».

The ban applies for the rest of the 2026/27 season and covers the League Cup quarter-final at Ibrox as well as the first league Old Firm of the campaign, at Celtic Park on Sunday 20 September. The SPFL said the arrangement is temporary and subject to review.

It follows the Scottish Cup quarter-final at Ibrox in March, after which an independent review found that "crushing" and "life-threatening violence" were narrowly avoided when Rangers supporters came onto the pitch to confront Celtic fans who had spilled onto the field in celebration. Both clubs have already been handed behind-closed-doors punishments for their next home fixture in that competition.
