PSG Fined €2.7 Million Over Gender Pay Equality Index
A Paris court upheld the labour inspectorate's ruling, fining PSG 0.5% of its 2022 revenue after three straight years of falling short on gender equality requirements.
The ruling, handed down on 25 June, confirms a decision made by the Ile-de-France labour inspectorate in March 2024. The penalty is set at 0.5% of the club's 2022 revenue, which comes to €2,728,468. Inspectors found PSG's equality index fell short of requirements for three years running, up to 2024.
The club has responded with an explanation of why the index is difficult for a men's professional football operation to satisfy.
"The indicator reflecting the proportion of women among the ten highest-paid employees runs up against structural features of professional men's football. Payments to players automatically occupy the top places in the earnings list, which significantly limits the club's ability to influence this indicator — regardless of the personnel policy applied to staff," the club said.
PSG added that it "carries out systematic work on these matters and has met the required obligations since 2023."
