Bruno Fernandes limps out after Man Utd's Sabah win
Fernandes played 90 minutes and scored in United's 4-0 Champions League win but was seen leaving Old Trafford limping before Sunday's derby with City.
Bruno Fernandes was pictured leaving Old Trafford with a limp on Thursday night, hours after playing the full 90 minutes in Manchester United's 4-0 win over Sabah FK in the Champions League.
The captain scored again as United returned to European action with what Michael Carrick called the perfect result. Matheus Cunha, Benjamin Sesko and Lisandro Martinez were also on the scoresheet. Fernandes showed no sign of discomfort during the match itself and stayed on until the final whistle, while Carrick used the second half to rest players with the derby in mind: Youri Tielemans made way for Mason Mount at the break, and Andrey Santos replaced Kobbie Mainoo shortly after the hour. Bryan Mbeumo and Sesko, both possible starters against Manchester City, were also withdrawn.
Footage shared by a Supporter showed Fernandes moving gingerly and waving to fans as he made his way out of the stadium alongside club staff. The 32-year-old took some heavy challenges during the game, and the club have not commented on the images.
United face Manchester City at Old Trafford this weekend and go into the fixture having taken four points from their opening three Premier League matches. They will still be without Amad Diallo, who is recovering from a knock picked up before the season began, and Carlos Baleba, who is working back from an ankle injury suffered in Brighton's pre-season. Fernandes has missed only five games through injury since arriving at United in January 2020, three of them last season with a hamstring problem, and the club will want the derby not to add to that list.
