Leeds Rout Newcastle to Climb Third in Premier League
Farke's side thrashed Newcastle at Elland Road in their biggest home win in 25 years, but he still rebuked Ampadu over a late goal conceded.
Leeds United beat Newcastle so comfortably at Elland Road on Sunday that the result flattered the visitors. It was the biggest Premier League win at the ground in a quarter of a century, since a 6-1 win over Bradford, and it lifts Daniel Farke's side to third in the table.
Bazoumana Toure still got a rebuke from his manager after the game. Farke was unhappy that his side conceded a stoppage-time goal to Bazoumana Toure in the 90th minute, even with the match long since settled.
Farke stood outside the penalty box after the final whistle, before his usual lap of the pitch applauding the crowd, and set out where he thinks this Leeds side can go.
"We have to dream big and think big."
Leeds had not been in the Premier League's top three after at least four games since 2002, when Terry Venables had Harry Kewell, Alan Smith and Mark Viduka scoring the goals. They have since been down to the third tier and back. Newcastle, who have reached the Champions League in recent seasons, were beaten by a side Farke says is "improving every year" rather than one built on individual quality. Farke traced that progress to the environment he has built at the club since taking charge.
Farke is already in contract talks. This win gives him leverage to demand European bonus clauses.
