Vladimir Fedotov turns down Fakel Voronezh job
The ex-CSKA coach declined Fakel's approach as the RPL's bottom side seeks a replacement for Oleg Vasilenko after nine winless rounds.
Vladimir Fedotov has turned down Fakel Voronezh, the club sitting bottom of the Russian Premier League after nine rounds on three points.
Fedotov was the only candidate Fakel had actually approached over replacing Oleg Vasilenko, according to Sport24. He declined the offer. Reports earlier linking the club to Yuri Semin, Guillermo Abascal, Zaur Tedeyev and Khasanbi Bidzhiyev were wide of the mark: Fakel held no talks with any of them.
Fedotov left CSKA in 2024, with Marko Nikolic taking his place, and has been out of work for two years since. He also had spells at Orenburg and Sochi during his coaching career.
Fakel returned to the top flight this season after a single year in the second tier, but Vasilenko's side are still waiting on their first win. By all accounts, whoever eventually takes the job would get at least a year and a half to work with the squad rather than a brief to shake things up for immediate results.
