Alidu Seidu joins OGC Nice on loan from Rennes
Ghana international Alidu Seidu signs for Nice as a medical joker after Antoine Mendy's ACL injury, with the straight loan carrying no buy option.
Alidu Seidu has joined OGC Nice on loan from Rennes as a "medical joker", a deal French rules allow after the transfer window despite closing on 1 September.
The move covers for Antoine Mendy, who suffered a cruciate knee ligament injury in the 1-1 draw with Le Mans on 5 September. Nice's owners, INEOS, gave the go-ahead for talks between the two clubs earlier this week, and the transfer was completed as a straight loan with no option to buy.
Seidu, a 26-year-old Ghana international, can play at right-back, right wing-back or centre-back. Nice manager Olivier Pantaloni explained the choice.
"We did our research on him and his footballing qualities. He can play in multiple positions, and we also had excellent feedback on his mindset. Despite his young age, he can be a leader in the dressing room. We really need that," Pantaloni said.
Whether Seidu is eligible in time to face Lille on Sunday remains to be confirmed.
