Infantino Proposes Independent Review of FIFA Governance
FIFA president Infantino wants the Council to back an outside review of decision-making and talks with confederations on 15 October after the Forward Enterprise row.
Gianni Infantino wants the FIFA Council to review the governance structure of world football's governing body at its meeting on 15 October, according to Voetbal International, which cites a letter from the FIFA president.
He proposes that an independent outside party examine how FIFA handles major strategic initiatives and where it can improve. He also wants a formal, temporary consultation with the confederations, national associations and other interested parties on how decision-making can be strengthened.
The letter follows the row over the FIFA Forward Enterprise plan, which was withdrawn after heavy criticism. Infantino says the affair showed that ambitious plans only succeed if the process behind them is trusted.
"Big ideas must be developed, tested and communicated through clear and reliable institutions. That is a responsibility I take seriously," he writes.
UEFA has already withdrawn its confidence in him, as have several of its member bodies, the KNVB among them. Infantino still intends to stand for a new term as president. So far he has no declared opponent, and other candidates have until 18 November to come forward.
