Mbappé Ruled Out of France Training With Flu Symptoms

Kylian Mbappé missed France training on Monday with flu-like symptoms, but the Real Madrid forward remains expected to face Turkey in Friday's Nations League opener.

The France captain reported to Clairefontaine on Monday but has not trained since, with the federation citing a "síndrome gripal" and saying he is resting in bed. No timeline for his recovery has been given. He had already sat out Sunday's session, when only 12 players took part, after playing in the Madrid derby against Atlético the day before.

By all accounts his participation against Turkey is not genuinely in doubt at this stage, and he is expected to start if his recovery follows the expected course. The match in İzmir will be Zinedine Zidane's first competitive fixture in charge of France, and also his first chance to have Mbappé train under him — something that has not yet happened.

Three more Nations League games follow the Turkey trip: away to Belgium on 28 September, then home to Italy on 2 October and Belgium again on 5 October.

Zidane's other 22 players held an open training session, signing autographs and posing for photos with supporters. One subplot awaiting Mbappé's return to full training is his relationship with Ousmane Dembélé, after the pair clashed publicly over the Ballon d'Or, with Mbappé suggesting he had always been seen as the favourite in France.
