Odegaard furious at Bernardo Silva after late tackle in Norway loss

Martin Odegaard left Oslo limping and angry after a late tackle by Bernardo Silva in Norway's 2-1 defeat to Portugal on Sunday night. The Arsenal captain told TV2 he did not understand what Silva was doing.

It happened in stoppage time at Ullevaal Stadium. Odegaard had just played the ball to Andreas Schjelderup, the 22-year-old Benfica forward, when Silva came through the back of his ankle. He was later seen limping through the mixed zone.

"I took a knock on the ankle. It probably won't be good tonight, but I hope it gets better in the next few days," Odegaard said, according to Record. "It was a reckless thing to do. He simply brought me down long after I had made the pass. I don't understand what he did."

Asked what he had said to Silva, Odegaard replied: "We shouldn't talk about that on television." He was also asked whether the tension could stem from the rivalry between Arsenal and Manchester City, Silva's former club. "Ask him that," Odegaard said. "I don't know what he's doing. This has no place on a football pitch. It's a pity that people do things like this, but that's life." Record reported that he also regretted that no apology came.

Portugal had led through João Félix on 17 minutes. Erling Haaland levelled six minutes after the break, and Gonçalo Ramos restored Portugal's lead three minutes later. Norway had 62 per cent of the ball and 6 shots on target to Portugal's 4, but could not find a second goal.

The result keeps Portugal's Nations League record perfect after their 1-0 win over Wales in the opening game. They lead Group A4 and travel to Copenhagen to face Denmark on Thursday.

If the ankle keeps Odegaard out of training, it may become a question for Arsenal as much as for Norway. Neither the reports nor the national team have said how serious the injury is.
