Juventus turn to Italian talent under Carnevali

Juventus are drawing up a new recruitment strategy under chief executive Giovanni Carnevali, moving away from algorithm-driven scouting and back towards Italian talent, according to La Gazzetta dello Sport, via CalcioMercato.

Three names are already being tracked ahead of next season. Cagliari midfielder Alessandro Romano, born in 2006, heads the list. The other two both play for Frosinone: goalkeeper Lorenzo Palmisani and forward Antonio Raimondo, both born in 2004. Raimondo, a centre-forward, has scored nine goals for Frosinone since joining in February 2026, though he remains owned by Bologna.

Tuttosport reports that the scouting department itself needs rebuilding at the Continassa, near-total restructuring by the paper's account. Ottolini started that work nine months ago but needs reinforcement. Two candidates are in the frame to take charge of talent identification: Enrico Paresce, formerly of Torino with a background at Roma and Rennes alongside Frederic Massara, and Davide Cangini, a trusted lieutenant of Carnevali's from his time at Sassuolo.

The financial context explains the shift. Juventus remain bound by a Settlement Agreement with UEFA that sets out a phased return to compliance: a deficit capped at €5m in this year's accounts, break-even next year, and a return to the football earnings rule in 2028 across a three-year cycle. Spending on incoming players cannot exceed what leaves the club under those terms, a restriction that would also apply in 2027-28 should Juventus post a football earnings deficit combined with a squad-cost-to-revenue ratio above 70 per cent in 2026.
